Nintendo Direct set for April 2, including more details about the newly revealed Switch 2

Nintendo Direct on April 2

It’s a big day for Nintendo fans, with the surprise official reveal of the Switch 2 arriving after months of unconfirmed speculation. Along with the reveal of the shiny new console, we’ve also got a date for the next Nintendo Direct event — April 2.

There’s no doubt that the next Nintendo Direct will be focused around the Switch 2, with more information about the console set to drop during the event. From the little we know so far, the next gen console will feature backward compatibility for all Switch games as standard, and a new magnetized mechanism for connecting Joycons.

Fans will surely be hoping for something huge to be revealed during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, preferably a release date so they can start budgeting to get the console on release day.

My personal hopes are that we’ll be given more details about what games will be released alongside the console, and I’ve got my heart set on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, although perhaps that’s a pipedream. In the reveal trailer for the Switch 2 itself, they showed off the console with images of Mario Kart on-screen. Could we be getting a new installment of the beloved franchise as well?

Regardless of what ends up getting revealed, the event will be streamed on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel as it always is, with the exact time of the event to be disclosed closer to April 2.

Nintendo Direct broadcasts usually last for between 25 - 30 minutes, and with everything that fans are hoping to hear regarding the Switch 2, it’s likely that the one in April will be on the longer side.

When was the last Nintendo Direct?

Although there have been other smaller broadcasts in the time since, the last full Nintendo Direct took place on June 18, 2024. It focused on games that were coming in the latter half of the year, while ignoring the lingering hopes that fans had about the Switch 2. Since then, we’ve had shorter broadcasts focusing on Indie partnerships and Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan.
