New Horses in Dead Rails
There are four new horses that have been added to Dead Rails. They are the Apocalypse variants: War, Death, Famine, and Pestilence. Each of them comes with a special ability and is very hard to find. We will examine each one below, listing their stats, locations, and exploring what each is best suited for.
War Horse of the Apocalypse

The Apocalypse Horse of War Health: 50 Damage: 60 (fire, over time) Speed: 30 Location: Wilds Distance: 10km-20km Ability: Set all entities near him on fire Behaviour: Passive Blood Type: Normal |
The War Horse, also called War, is an Apocalyptic variant of the regular horse in Dead Rails. It has a magma hide and spawns between the 10km and 20km mark, accompanied by five Fire Zombies and the Covenant Knight. While ridden, it sets all nearby hostile entities on fire but does not ignite items or friendly entities. Its saddle is a unique golden type that cannot be removed or used on other horses. Horse carts cannot be attached to any apocalyptic horse variant.
Death Horse of the Apocalypse

The Apocalypse Horse of Death Health: 100 Damage: 0 Speed: 30 Location: Wilds Distance: 30km-40km Ability: Grants all players the Angel's Tears effect. Behaviour: Passive Blood Type: Normal |
The Death Horse, also known as Death, is an Apocalyptic variant of the horse in Dead Rails. It appears in the wild between the 30km and 40km mark, ridden by a Covenant Knight and surrounded by four Werewolves. This all-white horse with blue eyes and a golden saddle grants the Angel's Tears effect to all nearby players, even after its death. The effect provides strong regeneration, allowing players to withstand heavy damage. Like all Apocalypse Horses, its golden saddle is permanent and exclusive, with no known use beyond its unique appearance.
Famine Horse of the Apocalypse

The Apocalypse Horse of Famine Health: 100 Damage: Lightning Speed: 30 Location: Wilds Distance: 50km-60km Ability: Generates Lightning when ridden while being chased. Behaviour: Passive Blood Type: Normal |
The Famine Horse, or Famine, is an electrified gray Apocalyptic horse variant in Dead Rails. It spawns between the 50km and 60km mark, ridden by a Covenant Knight and accompanied by four Werewolves. While being ridden, it generates lightning if an enemy pursues the player. Like other Apocalypse Horses, it features a permanent golden saddle that cannot be removed or used elsewhere. As of version 2885, a likely bug causes Famine to be killed by its own lightning strikes.
Pestilence Horse of the Apocalypse
Horse | Information |

The Apocalypse Horse of Pestilence Health: 100 Damage: 0 Speed: 30 Location: Wilds Distance: 70km-80km Ability: Resurrects dead enemies that are nearby. Behaviour: Passive Blood Type: Normal |
The Pestilence Horse, or Pestilence, is a zombified Apocalyptic horse variant in Dead Rails. It appears in the wild between the 70km and 80km mark, ridden by a Covenant Knight and guarded by a pack of Werewolves. While active, it resurrects nearby dead enemies, making it especially useful for raiding the Outlaws' Town. This ability is rare and shared only with a few other entities, like the Jade Mask and Necromancer. As with all Apocalypse Horses, it comes with a permanent golden saddle that cannot be removed or used on other horses.
Unicorn
Horse | Information |
---|---|
![]() |
Unicorn Health: 100 Damage: 0 Speed: 45 Location: Wild Sell Value: $250 (alive), or $150 (dead) Behaviour: Passive Blood Type: Unicorn Blood |
Unicorns have a 1% chance to replace regular horses when spawning, including those ridden by Outlaws. They can be sold for $250 alive or $150 dead, making them valuable but rare. Obtaining a Unicorn is required to complete certain Easter Egg challenges and earn a Badge. Players can increase their chances by searching horse groups, taming them in enclosed spaces, or stealing one from an Outlaw, though this risks the Unicorn's death.

![]() |
Horse Health: 100 Damage: 0 Speed: 30 Location: Wild Taming: Saddle Behaviour: Passive |
Horses spawn across the map, usually in groups of two to six, and can also appear with Outlaws and Zombie Soldiers as mounts. Horses are skittish and flee from players, but players can tame them by placing a saddle, which lets them travel faster and pull horse carts for extra storage. Although tamed horses provide great value, hostile entities often target them, and they do not regenerate health. Capturing wild horses is easier in enclosed areas or by herding them toward structures. Players should keep multiple horses on standby for backup. They can store horses by welding them to the train. Although players can ride horses without a saddle, controlling them becomes significantly more challenging.
