The 2020s are halfway over. Let’s take a look at this decade of gaming

Image
It's hard to believe, but the decade of the 2020s is more than halfway over now. Time flies, but time also slows to an actual crawl when a decade begins with a global pandemic. That said, ever since 2020, the gaming industry has seen an influx of awesome games that deserve to be in the discussion of the GOATs. Image via From Software Many would argue that the gaming industry is on a downturn, and in some aspects, it definitely is. But there are still incredible titles, both from new and existing IPs, that launch each year and give us something to really fall in love with. The decade began with most of us in lockdown, with games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Call of Duty: Warzone keeping us comfy and sane. And now the 2020s have worn on with classic titles like Elden Ring, God of War: Ragnarok, Baldur's Gate 3, and many others since filling up our hearts and minds. And now, 2025's first six months already has some legit game of the year contenders with ...

How to travel to Boston in BitLife

Image
Did you know you can travel around the world in BitLife and experience life's wonders? Well, kind of. Although you won't see any scenery, your character can visit different countries around the world and receive a happiness boost, depending on their interactions during their holiday. Traveling to Boston, in particular, is trickier than it sounds. Usually, the locations you visit range from festivals around the world to a country's capital city. The United States has numerous capital cities in each state, making it difficult to narrow your search down to just one. How to travel to Boston in BitLife You can travel to Boston by heading into Activities, Vacation, and Plan a Vacation. Here, you'll see a list of countries and, occasionally, states in the USA. Your goal is to find Boston, Massachusetts, in this list. However, there is a caveat with this. The list is completely random, and you can only refresh it by closing and reopening the BitLife app, aging up, or sw...

How many Shiny Pokémon did you catch at Go Fest 2025 Global?

Image
Happy Monday, trainers, with Go Fest 2025: Global behind us, I wanted to use this time to ask how everyone did during the event, and how many Shiny Pokémon did you catch over the weekend in Pokémon Go ? In truth, I didn't catch that many as I wasn't really that focused on Go Fest Global as much as I'd like. I was only after certain Pokémon like Skiddo, Torkoal, and a few others I needed for my Shiny living 'dex, and apart from a singular Snover and Vullaby, I was able to get a lot of my targets. Granted, one look at social media, and it seems like a lot of trainers are bemoaning the sheer lack of Shiny Pokémon at this year's event. A problem that appears to be a yearly focus at this point. I didn't have that problem myself and was able to catch around 40 Shiny Pokémon throughout the weekend, even though I wasn't checking every encounter. I think I lost around 30 Shiny Pokémon to Go Plus + as well. https://ift.tt/0zRCYrj In the end, I played most of S...

I’m not a fan of fantasy, but this one book has pierced my veil

Image
This has been taking me a while. But after many attempts that got lost in the fog, perhaps I now know how to approach this. Let's keep it simple for starters: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is a great book, worthy of all the plaudits it has received over the years. Two magicians appear in England in the Napoleonic era, with something otherworldly in the mist behind their backs amid a flock of ravens. If you like interesting magical worlds, endearing characters, many small details and lots of lore, you will feel right at home. You can go and enjoy it right now, and leave me with my odd little thoughts. You see, what I found most interesting about it is that I don't tend to like these things—or fantasy stories in general—and yet I deeply enjoyed the story all the same. Not only that, but it survived multiple revisits across different languages, even once I had an extra set of impressions layered atop the tale by reading the author's later work. So, what gives? Shou...

Destructoid’s Indie Gems – Edition 2: Cosmic horror on the apartment floor

Image
A city sheltered, there's something cosmic brewing outside. Dark clouds loom over, unmoving and unshaken, as if they house a darker secret above their vast layers. The uncertainty of tomorrow has spread across the locals. We're 45 days into something we don't understand. The air is poison, or so the authorities say. Only the Church is trying to do something about it, but can we really trust them? There's a crack in the wall. It's been there for a month now, and it's only getting bigger, so is that gnawing feeling that the situation will only get worse. How can you stay positive when everything is telling you—these are our last days? Screenshot by Destructoid Funeralopolis | Last Days is a truly underrated indie horror gem that was released last September on itch.io. Heavily text-based with walking sim elements, games like these demonstrate you don't always need voice acting to deliver lore or a believable setting. With a one-hour runtime, the w...

The final weekend of June is here. What July 2025 new release are you most looking forward to?

Image
It's hard to believe that 2025 is halfway over, but there's still plenty of big game releases to look forward to before the calendar flips over once more. Looking back on June 2025, there were several solid new releases, including a whole new console in the Nintendo Switch 2. Mario Kart World , Rematch, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, The Alters, and FBC: Firebreak were just some new titles that players had the chance to dive into this month. But now, we look ahead. Screenshot by Destructoid July 2025 is full of some big-name games, along with some promising new IPs that players are hoping will fulfill their potential and become a new smash hit. But with so many games and so little time, choices must be made as to which ones get your money and attention. Whether you're a sporty gamer and looking to pick up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 (July 8) or EA Sports College Football 26 (July 10), or an FPS fan and want to dive into Destiny 2: Edge of Fate (July 15) or...

Rapper 50 Cent, WWE’s Roman Reigns, and Jason Momoa to reportedly lead fever dream-like Street Fighter movie cast

Image
Sometimes, silly fan casts are not necessary. Occasionally, they come to life in Hollywood. At least, that's what the reported cast for the upcoming Street Fighter movie feels like. Did you ever think you'd see 50 Cent, Roman Reigns, and Jason Momoa working together in anything, let alone in a video game adaptation? Me neither. But that's what's happening, according to The Hollywood Reporter . https://twitter.com/Borys_Kit/status/1938313485101998510 Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will be playing the boxer Balrog, while WWE's Roman Reigns (real name Joe Anoa'i) will portray the demon Akuma, and Jason Momoa will be Blanka, lighting up the cast list of Legendary Entertainment's adaptation. Elsewhere, reports state that Andrew Koji will be playing Ryu, Noah Centineo is set to play Ken, Orville Peck will be Vega, and Callina Liang has been cast as Chun-Li. So, not only is the cast star-studded and varied from a Hollywood standpoint, but it's got a...

Ruffy and the Riverside review – A magical, texture-swapping adventure with a nostalgic feel

Image
It's been ages since I've dove deep into a 3D platformer. I grew up with several over the years, leaving me excited every time a new one launches. With Ruffy and the Riverside having a peculiar mix of hand-drawn 2D characters and 3D environments, it intrigued me from the get-go. I was also a little scared, admittedly. For every incredible platformer I've played, I've tried just as many that fell flat or aggravated me beyond belief, leaving me apprehensive about what was to come here. Fortunately, while it wasn't quite a perfect experience, Ruffy and the Riverside was a joyful blast to the past that left me feeling satisfied, albeit bored at times. Screenshot by Destructoid The highlight of Ruffy and the Riverside is Ruffy's swap ability, allowing you to switch textures around to solve puzzles and progress the story. One moment, you might be turning a waterfall into vines you can climb. A minute later, you might be transforming an entire ocean into lava...

Nintendo just ruined the best part of VS. Races in Mario Kart World in the 1.1.2 patch

Image
Nintendo has just released the latest patch notes for Mario Kart World , and before we dive into why one of the changes is so bad that it might put racers off VS. races altogether, let me quickly summarize what the patch includes. Mario Kart World - Ver. 1.1.2 patch notes General Adjusted courses selected in “Random” when selecting next course in a wireless “VS Race.” Fixed Issues Made readjustments to fix an issue where rate fluctuations were sometimes displayed incorrectly in “Online Play” and “Knockout Tour.” Fixed an issue where you sometimes can’t recover quickly after falling off the course in "Dino Dino Jungle". Fixed an issue where you continually hit the wall near the finish line of “Boo Cinema” when transformed into Bullet Bill. On the surface, it seems like a pretty standard patch notes, until you dig deeper into what "adjusted courses" means. As discovered through a data mine , the random option that many players used in VS. Races to obtai...

When is Death Stranding 2 coming to PC?

Image
A new Hideo Kojima game has arrived, and that feels like an event in itself. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is here and it's an incredible progression and advancement from its predecessor, by all accounts. I've been playing Death Stranding 2 on PS5 Pro, and it's a stunner. It's likely one of the best-looking games of this generation, if not ever, and the game has evolved from a gameplay and storytelling perspective, too. Naturally, with a console exclusive looking this incredible from a graphics standpoint, PC gamers are wondering when they will get to flex their builds with this graphical behemoth without having to purchase or bust out a PS5 console to do so. Here's everything wek now so far about Death Stranding 2's PC release. Is Death Stranding 2 coming to PC? Image via Kojima Productions While there's no official confirmation yet, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will most likely be coming to PC at a later date . For the past several years...

Where to find Coralum ore in Palworld

Image
Coralum is the latest metal to be added to Palworld as part of the Tides of Terraria update, and finding it can be a considerable challenge. The game does not clearly explain where to find this item. You'll need it for the first time while preparing Coralum Ingots, which are, in turn, required for making advanced Ingots and Fishing Rods. Most of the ores are found in different parts of the world, and you have to mine and process them. Coralum, on the other hand, will require you to head to the oceans. Table of contents How to find Coralum in Palworld Best ways to use Coralum in Palworld How to find Coralum in Palworld Coralum is present all around the islands but not on them. Instead, they can be found in the salvage floating on the ocean. You'll have to hook salvage from the ocean with the correct equipment. Then, it will all boil down to your luck, which determines what you get from a specific salvage. Screenshot by Destructoid To get salvage, you'll need...
