How to solve the Shelly Beach treasure map puzzle in Under the Island

With the amount of secret puzzles and hidden treasures that can be found in Under the Island, it’s best not to leave any stone unturned, and that includes the tombstones in the Windy Hills graveyard.

This graveyard isn’t exactly what it seems at first glance. It’s easy to run by all of its tombstones and think nothing of them. But if you’ve found the treasure map in the Shelly Beach cave, you’ll know this particular resting place is hiding something.

Here’s how to solve the Shelly Beach treasure map and Windy Hills graveyard puzzle in Under the Island.

When I first saw the map from the Shelly Beach cave, I thought the numbers next to the tombstones indicated the order in which you must move them. But given how many 1s are on there, that theory quickly fell flat. Instead, I realized those numbers actually give the number of spaces you have to move each tombstone in the direction of the arrow.

So that means the tombstones must be moved to the following positions:

  • Move the top tombstone one space to the right.
  • Move the leftmost tombstone one space down.
  • Move the tombstone to the far right one space to the left.
  • Move the tombstone to the southwest two spaces to the left.

After you’ve moved all of the tombstones into their correct positions, the graveyard will look like the above image. This will then trigger the gate southeast of the location to open, leading you into a chamber full of enemies and explosives. You’ll need to kill all of the monsters in the room before you can proceed.

The next few rooms operate much like the first. A few monsters will populate each room, and you’ll need to clear them out before you can advance. In some of the rooms, you have to walk over narrow beams, crossing giant chasms and dodging fireballs along the way to get to the other side.

Eventually, though, all your effort will be worth it. At the end of the tunnel is a golden chest with Techniques #1: Attack, called the “hockey beam." This technique powers up your third consecutive attack with the hockey stick, causing Nia to unleash a powerful strike against any foe or obstacle in her way. Additionally, you’ll find a smaller chest nearby with a Heart Coin in it, which you can then take back to M. Uscle in Koala Village to upgrade your heart storage.
