Is Resident Evil Requiem co-op? Campaign and modes, explained

RE9 Requiem RPD

Resident Evil Requiem is finally here, finally expanding the story of Leon Kennedy and giving us a new horrifying experience.

The game takes us through several locations, from twisted hospitals to the ruins of Raccoon City, allowing us to bask in the apocalyptic glory of the T-Virus and the consequences of its invention.

But fans would love to go through the game with their friends, abandoning the fear of solitude in favor if a co-op adventure, taking on man-made horrors beyond our comprehension. So, here's everything you need to know about RE Requiem's potential co-op and other modes.

As things stand currently, Resident Evil Requiem does not have a co-op mode. It is a singleplayer game that lets you take control of Grace Ashcroft (more horror-oriented) and Leon Kennedy (leaning into action). It is a similar approach to Resident Evil Village, the previous game in the series, where you had Ethan Winters for the horror parts and Chris Redfield for the action.

The only mainline entries in the Resident Evil franchise to have co-op were Resident Evil 5 and 6, with subsequent games only featuring singleplayer campaigns. Resident Evil 3 Remake had a separate co-op mode that was different from the main story, which often happens in games like these.

For now, you can only play through the actual story on your own. It has three different modes:

  • Casual Mode (auto-aim, more autosaves, enemies have less damage and do less damage as well)
  • Modern Standard Mode (regular enemy damage and health, plenty of autosaves, and no ink ribbon requirements)
  • Classic Standard Mode (akin to old RE games, you have to collect ink ribbons to be able to save)

Resident Evil titles tend to receive DLCs after their initial release, some of which feature fleshed-out, detailed stories for players to experience. These are often separate from the actual main story and either let you control new characters or take place in different locations. It could be in a DLC like this that Requiem would receive some form of co-op, allowing two or more players to go through it together.

In the meantime, you'll have to fire up a streaming platform and cast the game for your friends to watch. It's always good to have someone behind your back. If they're not a flesh-eating monstrosity, that is.
